US Government new funding model

  1. The issue

United States Government is the largest net donor in the whole world. US has decided they will be transitioning and changing the way they spend and channel money. Going forward in 2018, US will be funding directly local NGOs instead of working through international agencies and NGOs. As an NGO, now is the time to create capabilities to demonstrate your branch network presence at the grass roots. As a local NGO, you need to fix your governance processes and systems as you stand chances of strategic partnership with international NGOs seeking to optimize from the opportunity.

  1. The cause

A lot of money is usually spent in ‘transit’. The new approach is intended to improve on the impact of the funds released for humanitarian aid by eliminating ‘middle men’ who do not add value in terms of beneficiary welfare and growth. At one of the NGO’s for which I consulted working under an ‘international expert’, over 60% of the project funds were paid back to a consultant from an international NGO, and only 40% was committed to implement program areas.

  1. The solution
