I have met people who have stayed in the same position for over 15 years, and all they can blame is the system. When you set low career aspirations, you stagnate. Big career aspirations focus on the responsibilities you plan to take instead of the titles or money you wish to earn.
In the next four-part series, I will explore the 4 Ds of personal development. In this issue, we address the first D.
Why do you think some people rise quickly through the ranks to top management and achieve a lot of career success in a short time, while many others tend to linger in middle and lower management for a long time?
Why are so many people experiencing career stagnation while many others are being promoted and achieving great success?
Why do some people get easily noticed, and promoted while others stay in the same role for many years at a smaller salary or income?
The bad part is such people are the source of unproductive rumours like I am not favoured. They do not give me roles. I am not liked. This company is a tribalist. And many such kinds of negative energy.
Say something?

All these are great responses. However, they are not the major causes of the differences.
In all the places I have worked as an employee or advisor, people who get ahead think differently from those who stagnate. Winners know that nothing happens to them, it happens because of them and takes deliberate effort to deserve their rewards.
Winners apply the 4 Ds of personal achievement to stay a step ahead in career and life.
- DEPLOY the four magic words subconsciously.
“I need help.” [the wheel of life]
“I was wrong.” [taking responsibility]
“I am sorry.” [put off fires].
“How may I help you today.” [taking initiative, not just executing.]
- DO MORE than expected. Go the extra mile.
- DELIVER and think as the owner of the business.
- Be DELIBERATE about creating an impact at the workplace.
